I went in with my eyes open so never had that expectation.If you are supplied a JPEG with high compression and more artifacts, I have found that it has done a decent job of reducing the look of the artifacts. I have not done a side by side comparison of other software/filters targeting the same objective other than the Photoshop Filter > Noise > Reduce Noise that has a "Remove JPEG Artifact" checkbox. What do you need to know?The important part about JPEG to RAW AI (ugly and misleading name) is that you will have a hard time finding bad enough JPEG files that can make good use of it.I looked hard through our collection of digital photos and have not found a single JPG that came even close to the samples on Topaz' page. Even the worst of the worst old smartphone (Sony K800i) from nearly 10 years ago use JPEG quality higher than 90%. I struggled to find any JPEG with quality lower than 90% and those were still close.Most of these old images are messed up by color noise, but not by JPEG artifacts. Denoise AI might be the better option to handle these or at least you get a generally more useful tool for the money. Even more so now that Clear AI is included, because it handled color noise better than all other Topaz tools (ironically in the case of Denoise AI).All Topaz AI plugins basically seem to use the very same technology, just with slightly different emphasize and internal parameters. They all add noise and sharpen (including Denoise AI) and remove noise (including Sharpen AI). Thus they all smooth out banding/coarse gradations and they all remove noise from dark/shadow areas.
