This is the first patch for the games in more than 8 years. It fixes a number of bugs while introducing a couple of new features, such as an enhanced anti-cheat system and an observer mode. The Version 1.18 update also prepares the games for the upcoming “StarCraft: Remastered” upgrade. 2 made it kinda obsolete before and after the remaster was out. That game was still the vastly better looking version of Starcraft. Warcraft 3 is a different story. I think the remaster of that will actually sell a lot, because there's nothing else like Warcraft 3 and this version actually looks really good. As good as Starcraft 2 if not better. #25 For me it's more about it existing than how popular it is, and I also enjoy watching matches from Korea. #26 I think it's the fact that it became a free to play game if you don't "bother" yourself with getting the Remastered. It should have never went free to play because the player base did not substantially increase in the long run. Sure, you could say being Thanksgiving, people would be spending time with their families, but still, in US West, there were only 500 something players online and less than 100 playing. Can't comment about US East.Can't comment how the population in SC2 is since I have it uninstalled, but in Twitch (sure, I know this isn't a good way to measure a game's popularity), SC2 has like 22K people watching (tournament happing at this moment though) while Remastered only has 443. Heck, even Warcraft 3 has almost 3k.So, what happened? Gameplay is basically intact from Brood War, so it could please everyone who played Brood War. So why the online scene is so low? Checking through Liquidpedia, SC2 has had 44 major tournaments this year while I can't find something like that for Starcraft Remastered. And the original is still free *and* compatible with the remaster MP / custom maps. Was probably cheap to produce so whatever. #4 They wanted to update the look of Brood Wars in order to make it more viewable for tourneys and streams. They accomplished what they wanted. #5 Brood War is fine as it is, people just won't bother with something that will take them literal years just to understand what's going on let alone start to playing at a "decent" level, there are two major Korean leagues throughout the year, the scene is quite healthy right now, it was never going to sell millions outside of Korea, the ones that still play are the same people that would've being playing anyway if there was no remastered version at all, brood war is all about the Korean scene, people this days are all about instant feedback
