Online chess has boomed during the pandemic and so has cheating by players who sit in remote locations. The latest scandal was at the international body’s (FIDE) online university tournament where the winner, a former Ukrainian women’s champion, was disqualified and so were 19 others. So how deep is the rot in chess? What do statistics say?In August last year, chess.com put out statistics to show how accounts were closed, as cheating went up post the online chess boom. Before the start of the pandemic, the popular site for online play was banning about 6,000 players a month. In June 2020, the figure touched nearly 17,000. Titled players have also used illegal means. The website says accounts of 400 players with titles were closed, which included 46 Grandmasters. What are the common ways of cheating online?Using a chess engine, a computer programme, while playing online is one of the methods players use to cheat. FIDE president Arkady Dvorkovich has said ‘computer-assisted cheating is a real plague of contemporary chess’. Computer programmes, which power chess engines, and Apps can help a chess player play accurately and very quickly. Players can also get a prompt from those rated better than them on an electronic device, which is tough to detect as the game is being played over a screen. In over the board games, though cheating does occur, the fact that players sit face to face makes it much easier for an arbiter to detect any sort of hanky-panky.What are signs that someone is

Can be especially useful for beginners, who can learn the basics of the game by playing against Chat GPT and observing its moves and decisions.Virtual OpponentChat GPT can also serve as a virtual opponent, allowing you to play a game of chess without the need for a physical board or a human opponent. This can be especially useful for people who live in remote areas or have limited access to other chess players. One way to create a virtual opponent using GPT-3 is to use the model to generate chess moves based on the current state of the game. The model can be trained on a large dataset of chess games, including both the moves made and the reasons behind them, so that it can understand the game and make informed decisions. To make GPT-3 into a virtual opponent, the model can be set up to generate a response for each chess move made by the player. The response will include a suggested move for the virtual opponent, along with a brief explanation of the reasoning behind the move. This will allow the player to understand the thought process behind the virtual opponent's moves and learn from them.In addition to generating moves, GPT-3 can also be used to generate feedback for the player's moves. The model can be trained to analyze the player's moves and provide feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of the player's strategy. This will help the player improve their skills and gain a better understanding of the game.AnotherChess Opening Fundamentals - Remote Chess Academy
