4th Gen Intel® Xeon Scalable Processors Boost Performanceand Power Savings for BroadbandThe first quarter of each year tends to be one of the busiest for the networking industry as seen at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. Intel had a big presence there and we showcased how our latest 4th Gen Xeon Scalable processors continue a long tradition of leading and becoming the industry choice to power elements of the network such as the 5G core and virtualized RAN.I shared a pre and post blog highlighting the tremendous buzz we generated at MWC back in February. Not to be outdone, the last quarter of the year narrows the scope a bit and highlights the wireline and broadband segments of the network industry. On October 16-19, the SCTE Cable Tec Expo in Denver, Colorado provides an opportunity to see the tremendous progress happening at the edge of the network. At the edge, both wireless and wireline subscribers including many of us who often work from home, depend on the service to deliver the bandwidth, low latency, and security that we require for both business and entertainment. In this blog I want to unpack how Intel and our ecosystem are leading the way in these cable and converged access markets where service providers can take advantage of the same benefits offered in our latest CPUs that we showcased at MWC. These benefits started in the data center, migrated to the core and now extend to the edge. Here, service providers are taking advantage of a cloud native architecture and the many new features of our latest 4th Gen Xeon Scalable processors to deliver the performance required while also processing data in a more power efficient manner with fewer servers - ultimately providing a lower total cost of ownership (TCO).CableFirst, let’s take a look at the cable industry where we are witnessing an inflection point – most of the multi-service operators (MSOs) in the industry are beginning to deploy and realize the benefits of virtualizing the Cable Modem Termination System (vCMTS). As the demand for video, broadband connectivity and work-from-home consumer behavior continues, and. MWC is listed in the World's most authoritative dictionary of abbreviations and acronyms. On other sites Share How about we get TCU & SMU down here, then just take UH for good measure, but this must come as a tragic loss of the academies, which fit so perfectly in the MW. I don't think the MWC can add any team they want from CUSA, and down the road the same logic might apply to the WAC. Those Texas schools will try and move up together and may decide they like playing each other more than Wyoming or Fresno. It's similar to Gonzaga, the thought was they would jump at the chance to play in bigger gyms and increase level of competition. Gonzaga flirted, got a better deal and decide to play the like of San Francisco, Pepperdine, and Portland. I agree it doesn't make sense for MWC to expand to 16, but i also don't think many CUSA teams will be jumping to move. UTEP would accept an offer immediately based on location and history with MWC schools. I am guessing North Texas and UTSA would strongly consider.
 Share No reason to expand unless they offer the conference more tv revenue. All expansion does is being proactive against defections, if they just slice the revenue pie more without adding anything it isn’t worth it. Barack Obama
 Share I would think that with the population growth experienced in the West (sans some areas of Cali, I'm assuming based on certain headlines I've seen) and the explosive growth in certain markets that the MWC should stand pat. A quick check shows even San Jose and Fresno are both showing net growth (barely!), and of course certain markets are showing explosive population growth (Boise, Fort Collins to name a couple). Texas is growing very fast as well, but most of those that the MWC could consider would be more of another mouth to feed than a true value additive. Like any conference, the surest way to add value on a per member basis is to drop the deadweight and replace with much more valuable programs, but that ain't happening in our current unstable environment or probably ever. On other sites Share How about we get TCU & SMU down here, then just take UH for good measure, but this must come as a tragic loss of the academies, which fit so perfectly in the MW. No matter how you slice it, the MW is going to get better.
 Share Can they guarantee a working power grid?
 Share We'll agree to take UTEP if they can guarantee the MWC a spot in the Sun Bowl vs a P5 opponent, otherwise no thanks. Probably conf USA programs as well. During the last, big, expansion wave some conferences added teams and now probably regret doing so. We don't need to duplicate their mistakes. A 16 team MW, makes no sense to me. Who are we going to add that moves the needle? Even if we lose a couple of member schools, I'd rather stay at 9 or 10 than add more dead weight to the conference.
Pretty sure schools like UTEP, Rice, North Texas, UTSA, etc. will always

Texas is probably the only place we would look for additions, should we decide we need them. "Don't underestimate Joe Biden's ability to F@*k things up." A quick check shows even San Jose and Fresno are both showing net growth (barely!), and of course certain markets are showing explosive population growth (Boise, Fort Collins to name a couple).
