Now that The Super Mario Bros. Movie is streaming on Peacock, fans of the film — and of Nintendo video games — can rewatch it and pause it whenever they want so that they catch every single Easter egg. And, well, it’s going to take a lot of pausing, because there are an astounding number of Easter eggs and little references to iconic games scattered throughout the whole movie. Universal Pictures released two short videos featuring the creators and stars of the movie, which premiered in theaters in April of this year. All of the talent, including directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, Jack Black (Bowser), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), and Mario’s creator Shigeru Miyamoto, can’t emphasize enough how many Easter eggs are in the film. The videos spotlight a couple of the hardest-to-find Easter eggs in the movie. In the first act of the film, for example, there’s a scene where Mario (Chris Pratt) and Luigi (Charlie Day) bust through a brick wall. The hole they create in the bricks is the same shape as Mario’s head from the original 8-bit Super Mario Bros. game. “Nobody notices it,” Jelenic says in the video. “And that to me is a great easter egg, doesn’t take away from the storytelling but as soon as you notice it will warm your heart and tell you that you’re in good hands.”RELATED: Our favorite 'Super Mario Bros. Movie' Easter eggs: Game references, cameos & moreThere are also references to Pikmin, Punch-Out, Star Fox, Duck Hunt, and more. (Jelenic and Horvath actually both wanted to claim credit for the Duck Hunt Easter egg, which appears as a French restaurant in New York named Chasse au Canard.)Check out both videos above, and watch The Super Mario Bros. Movie on Peacock to see how many more Easter eggs you can find.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie Sign in to your TheGamer account Summary Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 will feature new characters, and some of them are going to be "deep cuts" into the franchise's lore. Fans have been speculating which characters Keegan-Michael Key is referring to. There have been some wild guesses. The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 will feature additional characters to those we've already seen, and, according to Toad's voice actor Keegan-Michael Key, the expansive lore of the Mario franchise will be explored in more depth in the upcoming sequel (thanks, GamesRadar+). "One thing I can say about the second movie is that it's a little broader in scope, and where it takes place is very intriguing to me," Key told Men's Journal. "They're going to find some really fantastic easter eggs and it's been very exciting so far." "I feel like what they've done creatively is they've really widened out the universe that these characters live in and we're going to meet some new folks. We're going to meet some new folks that are old favourites and some folks that I think are really deep cuts, but because of the way the story's laying itself out right now, those characters are going to be very intriguing," added Key. How Obscure is a Deep Cut, Anyway? It seems unlikely the characters Key is referring to are incredibly obscure. That being said, the actor has showcased impressive knowledge of some of the franchises he's been involved with, so it certainly wouldn't be out of character for Key to have a wide knowledge of Mario lore. Either way, his comment has sparked substantial speculation about what characters he could be referring to. The range of fan speculation for these "deep cuts" is very wide, from well-known characters like Rosalina, Toadsworth and Toadette, all the way to obscure single-appearance characters like Tatanga and infamous New York contractor Anthony Scapelli. We have our own list of obscure Mario characters for those looking for some fuel for their delusions, and I think Kylie Koopa has a real chance of showing up on the silver screen. We know The Super Mario Bros. Movie is no stranger to easter eggs and cameos, as Swanky Kong even made an appearance in the first movie. We'll likely have to wait and see to find out which characters Key is referring to. The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 releases April 3, 2026. The Super Mario Bros. PC Gaming Sign in to your Game Rant account By now most readers know our thoughts on Techland’s latest first person survival title Dying Light, but if not make sure to read our review. While the game showed a lot of potential, and offered some enjoyable gameplay and mechanics, the overall product fell slightly short of our expectations. However, if there’s one overwhelmingly positive quality about the game it’s that Dying Light always kept its sense of humor. It’s wholly evident while playing the game, but is becoming clearer as players uncover more playful secrets and Easter Eggs within the new release. From an EXPcalibur sword to a parody of Destiny’s loot cave, Dying Light has so far offered up some pretty fun Easter Eggs. This latest one, though, is arguably the best we’ve seen yet. Check it out below. [HTML1] As the video shows, there is a special pipe hidden in the second open world area of Dying Light that will unlock an homage to one of the greatest games and most iconic game levels of all time. We, of course, are talking about Super Mario Bros. and its World 1-1 level. What’s great about this World 1-1 homage is that the Dying Light mechanics give players the chance to explore the level from the first person perspective and with some added parkour skills. But even though there are some changes, developer Techland still did a solid job of replicating the look and feel of original Super Mario Bros. Even the zombies look like goombas. More importantly than that, the World 1-1 Easter Egg actually rewards players with some experience after reaching the final flagpole. But the biggest takeaway from the Easter Egg is likely the feeling of nostalgia that seeing those crude blocks and generic clouds brings out. Now, we’re curious more than ever to uncover all the Easter Eggs Dying Light has packed within its admittedly substantial campaign and sprawling open world areas. We thought Excalibur was just a tiny in-joke, but this Super Mario Bros. homage makes us think the known Easter Eggs are just the tip of the iceberg. They traverse colorful and varied locations, from Grass Land to Ice Land, and Giant Land to Water Land. Upon closer observation of the map of Water Land, there’s a group of islands that look like the shape of Japan. The castle is situated at the bottom of the biggest island. Interestingly, on a map of Japan, the city of Kyoto would roughly be where the castle of Water Land is. Nintendo’s headquarters have always been in Kyoto. 5 News Bulletins The Super Mario Bros. When the player takes a turn, the player reverts any Character Spaces crossed back to their original spaces by turning them into Yoshi's Eggs (for Yoshi) or Birdo's Eggs (for Birdo). When the turn is done, the eggs are turned into orbs that Yoshi and Birdo can use. The Egg Orb can also eliminate Koopa Kid Spaces. As in Super Mario World, Yoshi could use his tongue to eat enemies and then spit them back out at other enemies as an attack. However, by pushing the down button with an enemy in Yoshi’s mouth, the playercould have Yoshi lay an egg. Instead of containing items or more Yoshis, as theydid in the likes of Super Mario World, eggs could be thrown, rebounding off walls, breaking through barriers, collecting objects and smashing enemies.“We wanted to include egg-throwing as throwing actions weren’t something that had appeared much in Mario games,” Tezuka tells us. “Having said that, though, giving users the ability to simultaneously control both Yoshi’s movement and the direction they throw eggs in proved challenging and gave us quite the headache!” However, it proved to be a crucial element of the game. “Having said that, though, fusing this egg-throwing mechanic into a platformer helped us invent ideas that hadn’t been possible until that point,” Hino points out. “It was a real boon for ideas for the game!”Weekly digests, tales from the communities you love, and more"Unlike the Mario series, we tried to give the gameplay a more gentle and relaxed pacing"Takashi Tezuka, NintendoWhile the egg-throwing mechanic would be easy to implement in modern games thanks to the prevalence of dual analogue sticks, achieving it in Yoshi’s Island required some ingenuity. The development team managed to hit upon an elegant solution that managed to squeeze the whole process into two button presses. By hitting the A button, the player would reveal an aiming reticule that moved back and forth along an arc in front of Yoshi – while still allowing him to run and jump freely.Hitting the A button again would cause Yoshi to throw an egg in the direction he was currently aiming for. It was the trickiest of Yoshi’s skills to get to grips with as a player, but it gave the game a unique feeling amongst platform games. One of the other things the new
