Image via 20th Century Studios Simultaneous streaming releases are rare, so what gives? | Published: Jun 7, 2023 08:41 am Undoubtedly, James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water is one of the most commercially successful movies of all time. Ever since the first movie was released in 2009, audiences had doubts regarding whether the sequel would be able to live up to its reputation. Much to their delight, the latest installment has proven to be a great addition to the first, thanks largely to brilliant performances and dazzling visuals. Once again, we meet Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and his family preparing to protect themselves from the advancing threats of humans. Balancing its phenomenally positive reception against complaints about its long theatrical run, viewers have been eagerly looking forward to watching the movie in the comfort of their homes. This raises the question of which streaming platform(s) would add the second installment of Cameron’s popular franchise to its roster. Well, much to many a movie fans’ surprise, Avatar: The Way of Water has made its simultaneous streaming debut on both Disney Plus and Max on June 7. Normally, it’s pretty common to see the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie making an exclusive debut on Disney Plus and the same usually goes for DC films coming to Max. But for one movie to land on both of these seemingly opposed platforms on the same day is unusual, so why did this happen in the first place? It turns out, this was the result of a streaming deal that was made between 20th Century Fox (now called 20th Century Studios) and Max. You see, the deal was likely made before Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019. Avatar: The Way of Water famously took years and years of development because, just like the first film, new technology had to be invented to film it. Therefore, it’s not totally surprising that the studio’s ownership changing hands during that time would have had an unusual effect on its streaming distribution. Whether you prefer Disney Plus or Max, Avatar: The Way of Water is now streaming on both platforms. Danny Peterson contributed to this article. We Got This Covered is supported by our audience. A debacle. During 2016, Disney finally felt confident enough that they confirmed an opening in 2017. By that point, a lot of people had lost faith in the project, though.Nothing Silences Critics Like SuccessRoughly six years after its original announcement, Pandora – The World of Avatar opened to the public on May 27, 2017. It was Memorial Day in the United States, a federal holiday, and frenzied lines of people waited for hours to see how well Disney had done in bringing the fictional world to life. They knew that Cameron’s fertile imagination had invented a gorgeous landscape that glowed with bioluminescence. Could Disney recreate the shiny gorgeousness of these surroundings? You already know the answer to this question. Pandora – The World of Avatar is arguably the best received themed land of all-time. From opening day forward, this complex feat of Imagineering, one with iridescent plants and floating mountains, dazzled observers. Importantly, it didn’t suffer any technical hiccups, either. Even straightforward rides like Frozen Ever After suffered through downtime during their early days as cast members worked out the bugs caused huge throughput. Pandora never experienced any of that. Everything just worked.Everything was also beautiful. The pictures of Pandora are breathtaking. Imagineers were more than up to the challenge of translating Avatar’s dazzling visuals into the real world. After six years of behind-the-scenes struggles, they had perfected all of the tricky technologies needed to craft an immersive realm. A walk through the World of Avatar is a feast for the eyes in the truest sense. The sights and sounds are so subtle but so engrossing that guests do feel as if they’re trekking on alien soil. The Rides of PandoraThe twin highlights of Pandora are its e ticket attractions. Na’Vi River Journey is an amazing river ride that utilizes digital projection and a giant audio-animatronic to maximum effect. When you encounter the Shaman of Songs, you will gaze in wonderment at the lifelike Na’Vi spiritual leader. You will also feel hypnotized by her song. Amazingly, it’s only the second-best ride at the World of Avatar, though. The best ride at Pandora is also arguably the best ride at Walt Disney World. Avatar Flight of Passage is something of a first for Disney, an augmented reality simulation. It somehow marries the disparate ideas of the Banshee Flight from Avatar and the ride sensation from Soarin’ around the World. The output is an inimitable. Avatar was the second-highest grossing film ever made. Disney has four sequels in development and a dedicated Avatar theme park at Disney World. On Disney Plus, the original Avatar is a

Walt Disney created it. James Cameron will help add to it.The Disneyland Resort in its seventh decade is getting a new area dedicated to a world of fantasy, this one having originated from the mind of filmmaker Cameron. A long-teased “Avatar”-inspired section is coming to Disney California Adventure. The Walt Disney Co. confirmed the plans Saturday night at its D23 fan convention in Anaheim.Concept art shown by Disney revealed a water-focused attraction that Walt Disney Imagineering, the division of the company responsible for theme park design, promised would be "dynamic, intense and an emotional experience on a grand scale.”Imagineering executive Ali Rubinstein said the new area in California Adventure would differ greatly from an "Avatar"-themed land at Walt Disney World in Florida. This one, she said, would draw heavily from the second "Avatar" film, "The Way of Water." Consider it "an excursion in search of majestic natural wonders that can only be found in Pandora," said Rubinstein.Read more: In defense of Disney adultsThe announcement arrives at a crucial time for the Walt Disney Co. The firm reported lower than anticipated operating income for its parks division in its third-quarter results, with executives attributing the slowdown, in part, to a dip in demand driven by financial stress on consumers. Any drop in attendance at Disney theme parks — global tourist destinations that draw millions per year — raises questions not only regarding public sentiment on the economy, but the affordability and excitement surrounding the parks. In turn, this D23 convention was seen as crucial in inspiring fan passion for what's to come. And fans left Saturday's park-focused presentation with plenty to think about."It's kind of overwhelming," said Matt Reynolds, 31, from Orlando, Fla. "There's so much information and I'll have to read over it all and digest it all. I think it's

Orlando: The most beautiful place on this earth or any other. Photo: Gustavo Caballero/Getty Images James Cameron has set his sights as deep as the Mariana trench and as far away as the fictional planet of Pandora, but much as all roads lead to Rome, all entertainments lead to Orlando. In an interview with Variety about the upcoming blockbuster sequel Avatar: The Way of Water, the director said he reached out to Disney about potentially adding his sequels to Walt Disney World’s Avatar-themed land in Animal Kingdom called Pandora — The World of Avatar. “When Bob Iger came back a couple weeks ago, I did send him an email and say, ‘You know, we can do Avatar 2 and 3 motifs and put them into the physical hardware of Avatar Flight of Passage,” Cameron said. This attraction lets visitors straddle a vehicle that simulates riding on a banshee, as seen in the first film, and the screen-based environment allows for the footage to be swapped out to let visitors ride an ilu, the creature used by seafaring Na’vi in the second film. Iger “liked that idea,” Cameron said. “So nothing has been decided. But, you know, we would like to carry that along and update it from time to time with things that flow back out of the new movies. Because I think there’s a good synergy between the physical base, where you can go and just kind of meditate and be on Pandora, and how the movies progress the story and bring in new imagery.” Yet another exciting development in the Iger 2.0 era.
