Today — on Earth Day — non-profit search engine Ecosia has launched the “greenest browser on Earth” as it seeks to offer customers a more sustainable alternative to Google Chrome or Apple’s Safari. Just like Ecosia’s search engine, the more you use the browser, the more trees you will help plant. The Berlin-based company says it has already planted 200 million trees since 2009. The new browser will be powered by renewable energy from Ecosia’s own solar farms. In fact, the company says the browser will actually generate green energy — 25Wh per user each day they browse. That’s enough to power a lightbulb for 3 hours. This may not seem like much,, but it’ll add up if Ecosia’s 20 million existing search engine customers start using the browser too. Ecosia’s browser has been optimised for speed. It claims that loading pages is up to three times faster than most mainstream browsers. This is thanks to an inbuilt ad-blocker that reduces user data and energy consumption. While Google Chrome is safely the most-used web browser, no one can deny its energy-hogging capabilities. To solve this problem and make Chrome more efficient, Google has now introduced new modes that will help save battery and memory. Read on to know more.Chrome Gets New Modes for Improved PerformanceGoogle has introduced the new Memory Saver and the Energy Saver modes for its Chrome web browser, which will help improve its performance. The Memory Saver mode will free up memory from the tabs that are not in use. With this, Chrome will consume up to 40% less memory and will ensure that the active tabs run smoothly. This mode can especially come in handy while using some heavy-duty websites or apps and even while playing online games. And if you want to use the inactive tab again, it will be reloaded for you to get going. The Energy Saver mode, on the other hand, will help you save battery by limiting background activity and visual effects. So, if you quickly want to search for something using Chrome and your battery level is as low as 20%, you will still be able to easily make the search without worrying that the battery will die.The new performance modes can be found under Chrome’s Settings (under the three-dotted menu in the top right corner) and will show near the search bar once enabled. Both the Memory Saver and the Energy Saver modes are now rolling out to Chrome for Desktop and should reach all users [Browser]SunBrowser: Updated to Chrome 119 to improve the compatibility between the UA and the kernel.User-Agent: Updated to 119 version.[RPA]Fixed the issue that RPA tasks would occupy threads when they are not executed.Fixed the issue of failure of selecting elements for some plugins.New operation option "Google Sheets" to support using data from Google Sheets.Optimized: In "Task Log - Log Details", you can view the note information of operation options.[API]Now it enables creating extension categories. Now it enables deploying the settings of "Global Settings - Browser Settings".Now it enables the use of new IP checker.[Proxy]Adjusted the UI/UX of "Proxies - Proxy Configuration" page.Optimized the logics of randomly selecting proxies from "Proxy configuration - Saved proxies".[Other]BillingMore information about the order is available in "Order Details".Improved the UI of the payment page to provide a clearer payment process. B/W icons are unlikely help an LCD save energy at all. There have been tests that even showed some LCD screens actually use slightly less energy with a completely white screen (not black), this is because all light energy from an LCD screen is generated by the backlight (which is white light). An LCD screen creates black pixels on the screen by closing the pixel and blocking light from passing through. So a black (or colored) pixel on an LCD screen actually does nothing to reduce the amount of energy used.As for AMOLED screens, yes they will save energy by having pixels display as black, because every pixel on an AMOLED screen generates its own light. An AMOLED Black pixel is "off" and uses no energy. Black pixels are good, so what about Grayscale? Gray pixels emit a Limited amount of light, but the same statement is true for Colored pixels. Grayscale icons have been advertised as battery efficient, but they may not have as a great effect of power saving as we have been lead to believe.Linked below is a 1.5 hour "Screen On" test I did to measure the power savings of using Color vs Grayscale screen.
