Microsoft has been adding a lot of great and innovative features to its Edge browser, but some of the essentials of a modern-day browser are still in the works. Finally, those who are prone to accidentally closing windows stuffed will tabs will soon see a warning in Microsoft Edge. A Much-Needed Warning Coming to Microsoft Edge While Microsoft has yet to go on record about this new feature, you can see it in action over on the Microsoft Edge Tech Community. Forum user HotCakeX found the feature in a recent build of Microsoft Edge Canary. Canary is a special branch of the Edge browser that's updated every day with features developed the day before. As such, while it can be buggy, it's a fantastic way to see all the new features on the horizon. For example, we first spotted Microsoft Edge's sleeping tabs feature in the Canary and Dev builds of the browser. HotCakeX noticed that Microsoft Edge Canary now warns the user if they try to close a window that contains multiple tabs. The feature is hidden behind a flag, which you can find at edge://flags/#edge-ask-before-closing-multiple-tabs. Once the flag is enabled, Edge will give you a pop-up message confirming that you want to close the window. Bringing Microsoft Edge Up to Speed While Microsoft has had a lot of success with its new Chromium Edge browser, it's still missing a few key features that Chrome and Firefox have. With this new update, one more essential feature comes to Edge, much to the pleasure of tab-aholics. A webpage capture tool appeared on Edge Canary that lets you snap huge screenshots with ease. How the New Screenshot Feature for Windows Edge Works The new feature is currently only available on Edge Canary, which receives updates every day. It's an excellent way to peek at what Microsoft has planned for the browser and try out new features as they appear. Edge Canary received an update that lets you take a screenshot of a webpage. To activate it, you press CTRL+ SHIFT + S, then drag an area to capture. When you reach the bottom of the window, Edge will automatically scroll down so you can grab more. It appears that, at the moment, the screen capture tool has a height limit of 3285 pixels. However, that should be enough to capture as much of a webpage as you need. Much like the Web Clipper tool, this scrolling screen capture feature is also built directly into Edge. That means you should have access to it regardless of where you are, from library PCs to a friend's browser. Because Microsoft made Edge a core part of Windows 10, you'll always have access to it, even if Microsoft is also ensuring Edge is much harder to uninstall. Another Great Feature for Microsoft Edge Microsoft's new Chromium Edge browser is one of the best the company has released in years. Even then, Microsoft continues to update it with handy features and tools, so who knows what the company has in store for the future?
