FYI, prime will tell you when it fails per core. I dont think the numbers really mean ish unless you are concerned about crunching prime numbers. Either the blend or large fft's test will do that. I prefer the large fft's test. and does it matter if temp goes two high when i'm using prime95 some times it gets to 70-9xC? so does it matter if i run it for 8hrs 20 minutes of P95 small fft's will drive CPU temps to max. If you exceed 70 C, your are running too hot.Learn to use the BIOS for overclocking. Windows utilities tend to unnecessarily overvolt which drives the temps too high.We have had all sorts of discussions about how long to run P95 - 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, or 24 hours. It is up to you to decide, "OK. It is stable enough."I am one of relatively few who has decided that 24 hours is enough. Load, CPUz was saying I was getting 1.503 for vcore. I confirmed the voltage on CPUz, Corsair Link and Asus AI suite - all reading the same. Until I get the cooling under control (my H100i v2 is now delayed until next week. Grrrr), I may disable HT and see if that helps.I also did some checking on the AIO block contact - seems the Prime Z370a is slightly thinner than the mobo I had prior. I had a few washers on the backplate and thought it was enough, I took off the cooler block and noticed the standoffs were a bit loose. I added another washer (there's 3 on there now) and now it's nice and snug. Did some simple tests with Cinebench, and still, the package temp is 100c under load, but I'm noticing the AIO temp is now a bit higher, so I did have a contact issue.Regarding the bios - I noticed there's a beta version available for 5605. I have 0605 installed. Do you think it's wise to install a beta bios or wait until it releases? Kind of strange that 5605 was released as a beta after 0605 was a public release. Otherwise it's stable. As festerovic said, blend for 24 hours if you want to make sure it's 100% stable. If you don't care that there's a small chance it might crash, run it for less time (it's debatable how healthy long prime95 sessions are). Also do 20 minutes of small ffts to get max temperature. If its over 80C after 20 min of small ffts, it's too hot. Though at 4ghz and that cooler, you should have no problem keeping it under 70C.edit: what's your voltage? those temps are too high for a 4GHz oc. Prime won't kill it overnight though. Ex FSX simmer here too.Der8auer has advice on his channel. For the hero, but most of the settings should be the same. at stock can't be right.I have a Maximus x Code and 8700K waiting to be installed, so I'm yet to develop any expertise on the new platform, but I would suggest you install the latest bios and make sure everything is set to optimised defaults. What are you running when you see 1.47 at stock? If you run Prime95 [dependant on version] it will run AVX and increased voltage and temp will result. Try just running the sim. Thanks - I don't run any of the stress tests. To me, they all don't emulate anything the system would be running in real use, so why unreasonably stress the system? The temps/voltages I'm getting are while running P3d 4.1. That should be enough of a stress test as it's really utilizing every resource available. I did some more testing by changing from adaptive to manual mode on the voltage. I first left the voltage offset at 0, then the voltage stayed where I set it (started at 1.32 @ 49 OC). I tried running Cinebench and got a BSOD half way through. While the test was running, CPUz showed the correct vCpu. Then I went back and added .07 to the offset. Didn't change anything else. Ran the same Cinebench test, and now CPUz is showing 1.504 for voltage - WTF??? Temps are still out of control. I had to install rubber washers on the AIO standoffs to get decent contact. The AIO temp under load is around 53c (Package temp is 100c), so I know it's heating up, but the exhaust air doesn't seem to be as warm as it should be. I'm wondering if either the pump is dying, or it's not making good contact. I'd like to get the voltage under control, and then maybe the temps will come down. Oddly enough, when the system was running at 1.50v, there were no issues - but that can't be good for the cpu. That's if the voltage is being reported accurately of course. I'd try other software to make sure it's not a reporting error. But yes, if you have issues you believe with your AIO, then that wouldd certainly be a potential cause of high thermals. Do you have an air cooler you can get your hands on to test with? If I were you I would try to keep all variables under control while testing. That means the latest bios and running at optimised defaults. Don't even apply the XMP setting. Don't try to overclock, don't mess with voltage. Then check to see what the CPU voltage

#1 I am having nothing but issues here. I know that the overclock is taking, but anything set to over 380MHz only reports as 380MHz. I have gone as high as 405MHz, BIOS reports correctly on POST and everything, in fact I lost half of my PCI stuff in windows at that speed but CPU-Z will only report 380MHz. I currently have it set to 399MHz and still - 380MHz. The thing is that even Vista is reporting correctly. See shot below:As you can see, Vista is reporting the correct speed for 9x399, yet CPU-Z is still reporting 380MHz. Any ideas? I do know about speedstep and the multiplier being changed. Here it is stressed: #2 you know i dont have an answer for you... since this kinda happened with my board in june/06. i could set the fsb to anything over 380mhz in bios or uguru and the fsb in cpuz would go over. even on boot up the motherboard told me 380 even though i told the bios 400mhz or even 420mhz. no amount of voltage to the nb fixed this either, no bios update either....where im at i cant see you picks... imo if you can rma the board cause its not suppose to be stuck that low of fsm. RMA isn't even an option at this point. The thing is, the BIOS says the correct speed, POST says the correct speed, Vista says the correct speed, nothing else does. This is a bummer, man. #4 even previous versions of CPU-Z report 380? #5 what about everast, sorry i dont recall the exact name of the proggy. Thread Starter #6 Everest does also. I have tried previous versions of CPU-Z with the same results.OCGuru, however, shows the correct speed.Frustrating. I am not ready to upgrade, this has been running quite well for a while. FINALLY this board has stable BIOS. No more C1 or 2A errors. I would hate to ditch it now. #7 well my ab9-pro was pretty much from the worst bunch in the first run... the only issue was a max fsb of 380 no

Shown and according to what I see the ram should be 10, 10, 10, 30 & 39 according to the Jedec settings shown in CPUz SPD Tab. You have the ram tighter than the specs and can cause a problem when trying to get stability. Such ram timing tightening can have the same effect as overclocking the ram which is best 'tested' after cpu stability is assured and not have stability in jeapordy with both cpu speed and possible ram issue. RGone... #8 Hello, Mark! Welcome to the forum! Could you please try something for me? Put the CPU back to stock, and see if Prime95 fails again. That will rule out processor instability. Then, use the Custom setting for Prime95, and make it look like this:And see if the error happens. This will not test your RAM at all, but it will properly stress the CPU.Thanks!EDIT: Also, do what RGone said about the RAM timings, we want to rule that out too. Thread Starter #9 Here are the CPU-Z tabs and HWM tabs requested, this time running the test Arbiter Odie suggested however i forgot to turn the clock speeds back to standard spec.. The test has been running for over 2 hours 30mins so far with no issues yet, highest CPU temp so far was 58c and Motherboard is 27c. I had also noticed my RAM timing had changed, it was 10,10,10 with the first few overclocks but has since went down to 9,9,9. Im using D.O.C.P mode when. Historically, the '5' bios, which is beta, is released before the full release - but in this case it wasn't.i followed d8ers video but i used these settings 1st day and no issies for 4 weeks adaptive mode 1.33v no offset svid support onsvid best case cinario cpu power 140%loadline=6 5 ghz all cores no anvx 5 ghz all cores mce off i have 1.33 and under loas like prime i get 1.345v -1.355v max on games im 1.34v never more on adaptive and it drops to .800mhz / 0.8v idol since day one . my cpuz reports 0.6v always misreads . i use hardware monitor and i dont have a vrm temps in any app on my asus x hero wifi Rig # 1 - 14900Ks SP-124 | 90 MC @ 6.0 GHZ | 5.2 R | 4.7 E | DDR5 48GB @ 8,600 c36 | Strix RTX 4090 | PG27AQN 1440P 27" 360 Hz G-Sync ULMB 2Rig # 2 - 14900Ks-SP-118 | 89 MC @ 5.9 GHZ | 5.2 R | 4.7 E | DDR4 32GB @ 4,533 c16 | Strix RTX 3080 | Aoc 1080P 25" 240 Hz G-Sync bhorv67 wrote:In some of the testing I was doing, I did have SVID /best case set, and LLC level 5 was causing too much voltage to be applied. I think something is not right with adaptive mode. The offset seems to apply more than is entered as a value. I had 1.32 as the voltage, and .08 as the offset

10, 2011 132 0 18,680 #3 so i will let prime95 run about 8hrs so i can sleep how will i know if it fails? Dec 10, 2011 132 0 18,680 #4 and does it matter if temp goes two high when i'm using prime95 some times it gets to 70-9xC? so does it matter if i run it for 8hrs Mar 29, 2011 1,034 0 19,360 #5 If it crashed (read: bsod or freezes) or gives you an error message, it failed. Jul 16, 2008 2,504 1 21,165 #6 You shouldnt have to use voltage higher than 1.30 volts most of the time. Dec 10, 2011 132 0 18,680 #7 Clock BCLk/pcie frequen 100.00mhz, cpu ration x40.0, gt frequency 1100mhz voltage for all of the valtage of w.e this areCpu voltage offset +0VDram valtage 1.500vpch valtage 1.059vtt valtage 1.051vcpu pll valtage 1.832vvccsa vaktage 0.925vigpu valtage offset 0 mVthats what it shows on my asrock extreme tuning utility didn't want to restart pc and yea the ram i'm using is a cosair vengeance 4x2* stick Mar 29, 2011 1,034 0 19,360 #8 There are some excellent ocing guides here, use them to get the lowest voltage possible.basically, reduce the voltage in small steps while testing in prime for 5 minutes until the voltage is too low and it crashes. then up the voltage a bit and test overnight. Mar 29, 2011 1,034 0 19,360 #9 does that say 1.832v??? download cpuz and send the voltage from that.First though, restart the computer and make sure the core cpu voltage is not above 1.4 at the most. if it is at 1.8, u could be seriously (likely are) damaging the cpu.edit: nvm, cpu pll valtage is not core voltage. give us your cpuz reading with and wihtout furmark running. Dec 10, 2011 132 0 18,680 #10 k downloaded its showstechnology 32mm core valtage 1.176v ran prime95 really fast so the cpu to go to 4hz and the valtage went to 1.2v max Dec 10, 2011 132 0 18,680 #11 and no the temps are not going over 5xC now its stable at 5x

Torture Test and has a small dot next to the In-place large FFTs. Change that to Blend (tests some of everything) and then click on the OK button to begin testing as the majority of us do our testing. By the way the first two images of that link are spot on in general to get to where you then setup as shown in image #3.By the way we need to see not only the HWMonitor capture done while doing P95 Blend mode but also the CPUz > CPU TAb, Memory Tab and the SPD tab so can verify ram settings. Luck man. RGone...PS: this is link to 32bit version for download. Thread Starter #6 im currently running prime95 again, i upped the multiplier by 0.5 taking me to 4.4ghz, 22 on the multiplier, i didnt change any voltage settings just to see if the error comes again, if it does il roll back the multiplier to 21.5 again and add slightly more voltage? Im running 32bit prime95 and im currently doing a blend test. This is how HWM and CPU-Z look, i also have task manager running to ensure the CPU is under full load screenshot after 1 hour of prime95 Last edited: Jul 13, 2015 #7 @ Mark. Please attach screen captures to the forum so that all can view them and also so that "later" the images are still available down the road when your outside forum links are dead and gone. I looked at first outside capture
