A while GW forget to isolate IE. I thought it was Keyscrambler, but now I have the same with Chrome, so it was not Keyscrambler free. I have also run Keyscrambler with DefenseWall on my wife's laptop. The concept of Keyscrambler is nice, even when you have a keylogger on board, it can not make anything out of it. This kind reduces the strain of near perfect outbound control and keylogger protection and makes you setup a lot easier (no need for CIS-like aps, although it is becoming easy to use, it stays a classical HIPS, no matter how many smart layers you build around it, you will get a pop-up once, which you have got to answer)Best advice I can give you to prevent incompatibility:a) Choose a policy sandbox like GesWall or DefenseWall or implement it through the OSb) Use an Antivirus which only focusses on driver level. Avira is a good free AV. The free version only implements teh blacklist through a file filter driver, which is very efficient and enough when policy containing your internet aps with GW or DW.c) Use Keycrambler (but install it before [a])Cheers Haven't tried DW or GSWall but I like keyscramber. It fooled a key logger test for me.I think a LUA may give you a lot of what DW and (esp) GSWall do , if you are ok with not installing app until your back in an Admin account. My 2 cent Well with GesWall/DefensWall you have to set it trusted, is onlyDefensewall Hips Software - Free Download Defensewall Hips
Think based on OP's question I would say Private Firewall just for the previously mentioned facts that it is light and stable.Best of all it's free with good support! #17 I have been a long time Outpost Firewall Pro user and have grown accustomed to it on every PC i own. #18 Littlebits I have a question?and what do you think of DefenseWall Personal Firewall with Antivirus EsetNOD32 their cooperation?: ( DefenseWall is different than most other firewalls it is like having Sanboxie or BufferZone Pro with a network firewall.DefenseWall is the first sandboxing-style personal firewall, it is a good product if you learn how to use it correctly. For myself is is not worth messing with since I don't need that kind of protection and if I did need it, I would use a free product instead. If you already use your web applications sandboxed with Sandboxie then DefenseWall is not needed. Eset NOD32 is probably the best paid AV solution to buy, if you don't want to use free AV's. For myself I never buy security products since free product do excellent keeping my system protected along with my own actions. If you do want to buy, first give the trial version a full test run to make sure you like the products and they have no conflicts. You don't want to end up buying products that are not compatible. Enjoy!! #19 Thank you for all of your responses. I'll load PrivateFirewall for now on my wife's PC and I'll replace it with Online Armor it it acts up.Than you again. #20 If you should encounter issues with PrivateFirewall, please shoot an email to their customer support. You'll never find a quicker response and attempt to put your issue right. Greg and company take their product very seriously and while not perfect they do make every effort to address issues and new features when they can.. DefenseWall HIPS Download. #2 I use, or have used, Online Armor (free) and Privatefirewall. Both are excellent programs that will get the job done. #3 Thanks very much, aztony. Should I use the system firewall or should I consider other firewall software? All responses will be appreciated. Last edited by a moderator: Dec 13, 2013 #5 How much Ram does your PC have, please? This will help for Windows XP users? #8 Comodo is very good but you can have a problem because it can slow down the websitesin my opinion, Private Firewall is the best firewall Last edited by a moderator: Dec 13, 2013 #9 I've used them all though Outpost, once removed, has never successfully run on my system again.Of the group mentioned, I prefer and continue to use Online Armor (Premium). To me it's the most intuitive to use and most effective out of the box.If it works without issues on your machine, Online Armor is the one I would recommend. #10 Installed Outpost, uninstalled it after a few hours I didn't like it. Used Comodo Firewall and PrivateFirewall. Liked PrivateFirewall... #11 Out of the three mentioned, I would agree that Privatefirewall would be the better choice. It is free, lite and doesn't cause the issues that is related to the others. But if you already have a router with a firewall, it would be recommended to configure it to protect your complete network.Router firewalls do a much better job keeping your network protected, if configured correctly you will not need to use another software based firewall besides Windows Firewall. Only download files from safe sources and utilize UAC and then you will not need advanced security like HIPS features.Thanks. #12 I like PrivateFirewall as well, and have had great support from their development team through many contacts with Greg Salvato over a period of a couple of years. That said, PF is not without its quirks and issues. However, Greg and staff are usually pretty quick to address them if they can (as well as incorporating new features). #13 Littlebits completely agree with you.thanks Ink Administrator #14 I would too choose Private Firewall. It's small, light and free without any bloat or risk of your (SolidWorks) files going missing. That would be my main concern with Comodo Firewall, it's Auto-Sandbox (included with the Firewall) relies on it's own (TVL) Trusted Vendors List, and you can't be sure if all SolidWorks components are listed on it.@Littlebits They're using Windows XP, no UAC available. Also you may want to contact SolidWorks about Antivirus/Firewall compatibility, their current lists are limited: Last edited: Dec 13, 2013 #15 Littlebits I have a question?and what do you think of DefenseWall Personal Firewall with Antivirus EsetNOD32 their cooperation?: ( #16 I think OA is an excellent firewall.I use it on Win 7 as part of EISOutpost is also good but was very buggy when I tried it in Win 8I. By using both of these, will it present a problem of having "too much" of overlap when it comes to HIPS? I do not use either of these, however, a friend of mine would like run Outpost Firewall Pro 7.5 and SpyShelter Prem. for extra protection. The HIPS of both programs will be overlapping, maybe would be better to use Spyshelter Premium with a firewall without HIPS, like Comodo Firewall or FortKnox Personal Firewall Yanick Registered Member Joined: May 3, 2011 Posts: 274 That's true. I do use Outpost fw Pro with Spy Shelter ive just disabled outpost HIPS, no problems here. The HIPS component of SpyShelter is by no means as full-scope as the HIPS component of the latest version of Outpost Pro (OP). Moreover, OP passes all SpyShelter (SS) keylogger tests. IMO, SS isn't needed when you run OP. Yanick Registered Member Joined: May 3, 2011 Posts: 274 Yes, OP had much larger HIPS rules ''list'' than SS. Some tests with OP's HIPS have failed, like half of the ''screenshot'' test from SS test. I did test this with OP HIPS max and just OP itself running, might be more beneficial to leave system guard and application guard running from OP's HIPS and disable anti-leak. And use SS HIPS. Think this would do it? That's an Okay set-up I think. You might also want to consider this:(1) use OP's full HIPS.(2) turn-OFF SS System Protection.>>>That set-up lets SS do the keylogger protection & lets OP do the HIPS.
