My experience with Sonic DLA under XP has taught me that this piece of software is buggy, so in general there is no guarantee that something won´t went wrong if you uninstall DLA. Now, based on what you mention about disabling DLA from windows startup, I think the problem you have observed has a "simple" explanation: From what I have seen, DLA completely overtakes the burning support in XP, and with DLA installed there is hence no way to use the native XP burning function.
