Can You Put Regular Gas In A Flex Fuel Car? What Is The Downside Of Flex Fuel? In the interest of keeping gas engines alive, many automakers, scientists and other automotive businesses are working hard to find alternatives which provide a more sustainable future for the fuel. While many are turning toward synthetic fuels, some are putting their faith in a fuel which consists of an unusually high amount of ethanol, known as flex fuel – here's everything you need to know. This article shines a spotlight on an alternative fuel known as flex fuel (also known as E85 gas), which is more mainstream than most will know. Before exploring the benefits and negatives of flex fuel, the article explains what it is, and then looks at what cars can use it, before briefly touching on other ethanol-based alternatives. Ford Flex fuel is what's known as an alternative fuel, of which there are many, but flex fuel is largely unique in that it works in a very similar way to regular gas. It consists of gas and either methanol or ethanol, and it can be used in any car that's been designed to run on multiple fuels, known as flex fuel cars. Unlike some alternative fuels, flex fuel doesn't require a vehicle to be dramatically different from regular models, as only slight changes to the engine and fuel system are required in order to make a model flex fuel-compatible. Flex Fuel Was Introduced In The 1990s Flex fuel vehicles, also known as FFVs, aren't anything new on the scene, with Ford claiming to have launched the first commercial FFVs as early as 1996. Within the first decade, a wide range of manufacturers have opted to launch their own FFVs, with GM, Ford, Toyota and many German giants such as Audi and Mercedes-Benz also developing FFVs. Fewer brands invest in the technology now, but up until recently, FFVs were still available from numerous mainstream brands, which means many are still in circulation and available used. If you're burning through your E87, no worries about that, really. It's really only a worry for engines with rubber hoses and gaskets in the fuel system, as prolonged ethanol fuel use degrades it. It’s my daily and only vehicle so just trying to see what the mpg would be with each one out of curiosity before filling up tomorrow. Murphy USA in town is the cheapest for all gas and Casey’s is the highest but I have a gas station outside of town that sells nothing but non ethanol 87 at a good price. Idk if Murphy offers non ethanol 91 or not Joined Aug 6, 2016 Threads 4 Messages 283 Reaction score 161 Location Casa Grande, AZ. Vehicle(s) 2024 EcoBoost Rapid Red #4 Personally, I think the use of Top Tier fuels is more important than 87 vs. E87. The car is designed for the ethanol fuels, so that should be of no real concern if driven regularly. The cleaning power of top tier gas will help keep it running more efficiently for longer.I use premium (91) in mine, and average 37mpg for mostly rural driving (55-65 mph, very few stops). I currently have around 6800 miles on it, so it is broken in by now. Photo via Booster.Getting gas delivered to your car while you’re at the office is turning out to be a pretty nice perk — and investors think so, too.Booster Fuels CEO Frank Mycroft. Photo via Booster Fuels.Booster Fuels, which operates a mobile gas station that functions via smartphone, today announced a $20 million round from existing investors like Conversion Capital, which led the round, along with Maveron, Madrona Venture Group, Version One, Perot Jain LP, and RRE Ventures. New investors include Stanford’s StartX Fund, BADR Investments, and U.S. Venture Inc. Total funding to date is now $32 million.Founded in 2015, Booster Fuels counts more than 300 large employers, including Facebook, Cisco, Oracle, eBay, and others, as customers that offer the service as a perk to employees. Users can request gas with a few buttons on the Booster Fuels app and someone shows up soon after in a custom-built mini-tanker to refuel your vehicle. Prices are similar to what you’ll find at the local gas station; Booster doesn’t charge a service fee.The company originally started in Seattle, but relocated to Burlingame, Calif., to Silicon Valley last year. It operates in the Bay Area and the Dallas-Fort Worth region, and has delivered more than five million gallons of gas — that’s up from a 3 million milestone reached in April.“Demand from customers drew us to the Bay Area where road congestion challenges the massive commuter base who we serve,” Booster Fuels CEO Frank Mycroft told GeekWire. “Booster helps reduce the stress and time of that commute. As a perk for large companies to offer employees, Booster helps employers attract and retain talent in the very competitive environment down here.”Mycroft, a former executive at Redmond, Wash.-based Planetary Resources, said there are no immediate plans to bring the service to Seattle. There is certainly plenty of opportunity for Booster, given that Americans used a record amount of motor gasoline last year and how filling up your tank is a rather mundane chore.“I have yet to meet someone that says, ‘I love going to the gas station,'” Mycroft told GeekWire when we first discovered the company. “This industry hasn’t changed much in a long time. Our goal is to provide a more cost-effective and energy-effective way to get this chore done that doesn’t involve you having to go to the gas station yourself.”Booster has developed its own transportation equipment; supply procurement; routing algorithms; and mobile app experience. It competes with companies like Purple and Filld, though differs because it focuses on large office parking lots at corporate campuses. The company also provides fuel for vehicles at university campuses, as well as to commercial fleets. Its service offerings include tire inflation and replacing windshield wipers, in addition to refueling your tank. There have been legal and safety concerns about how Booster operates its business, but it seems investors aren’t worried. In a blog post, Madrona Venture Group Managing Director Matt McIlwain — whose firm invested in Booster’s seed round — called Booster a “truly special company” that succeeds at

Premium Gas?The answer is usually in the owner’s manual or posted inside the fuel door. Cars that have high compression ratios or turbochargers usually need premium gas.“If it says ‘premium fuel required,’ then you don’t have much choice,” says Sebastian. “Your engine is designed to run on high-octane fuel, and using regular gas could cause knocking or long-term damage.”If your car’s manual says “premium recommended” or “regular fuel acceptable,” that means you don’t have to use premium gas. However, occasionally, a car will do better on a higher octane. For example, if you have an older car that’s designed for 87-octane gas and it knocks when you punch the pedal, try filling it with 89-octane fuel to see if the knock goes away. If so, keep using 89-octane to regain some power and save your engine.“Fuel octane is also good information to factor into purchasing a car,” says Chris “Moose” Pyle, an automotive expert with JustAnswer. “Paying 20 to 50 cents more per gallon because the car needs high-octane fuel is not that enjoyable.”Can I Use Premium Even If My Car Doesn’t Need It?Yes, you can use premium gas even if your car doesn’t call for it, but don’t expect major benefits for the price difference. “Sometimes, higher octane fuels do contain a few more additives like fuel system cleaner and water reducer,” says Pyle. If your car runs much better on high octane but does not require it, this means your car has concerns that need to be diagnosed and resolved so you can stop spending so much at the pump.”What Will Happen If I Use Regular Gas In My Car That Needs Premium? You’ll likely notice a drop in power and fuel efficiency because the gas will prematurely ignite in the engine. Over time, this will also lead to. Give every car unlimited fuel. The fuel tank of every car will be filled to 100 percent all the time. This will also remove all other fluids from the car's fuel tank. This will not add a fuel tank to the car, a fuel tank needs to exist on the car for this option to have any effect.
