Firewall turned off - Avast WEBforum
January 15, 2011, 8:30am 1 I’m running Avast Free 5.1.889 on Windows 7 Ultimate and suddenly a few days ago after booting up the web shield just turned itself off. The Avast icon in the tray now has a exclamation point that wont go away.I try to turn them back on in the Avast interface but nothing happens. I disabled Windows Defender and uninstalled Malwarebytes with no avail (no other virus protection is installed). Next, I tried to repair but that didn’t work. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no luck. I then tried uninstalling and then using the Avast removal tool. After another installation I get the same result (I even tried this in safemode).Maybe a firewall issue? I did try turning off the firewall but nothing seemed to change. Something I’m missing? Any other suggestions? system January 16, 2011, 5:38am 2 Bump. I also wanted to add I’m running 64 bit. For some reason Avast seems to be blocking a web site that it shouldn’t.How can I tell if it is an Avast problem or if something else is going on?I am using Avast v. 10.3.225.Or maybe somebody can explain how to Avast learn that this is an OK website? Thanks in advance… Pondus August 3, 2015, 1:56pm 2 what website?and what does avast say … is it URL:mal ? And if I use Safari for PC it works fine. Thanks for the help…Rich Pondus August 3, 2015, 2:35pm 4 never seen that message before ?seems like a avast / Chrome issue and not related to the website … tried with IE / Opera Thanks for looking and trying to help… It seems that if I go to Settings—>Active Protection—>Web Shield in Avast and turn off Web Shield I can get there with no problem. I entered the URL into the Exclusions portion of Avast but for some reason it did not work and the site still gets blocked.I really hate leaving it off but I don’t know what else to do… mchain August 4, 2015, 11:05pm 7 Could be a false positive but we would need to see a block by avast screenshot from you to know that. From what you say is avast firewall is blocking Chrome from accessing this site cannot be as you are turning off WebShield in order to access using Chrome. WebShield and your firewall are not the same thing. If it was your firewall blocking Chrome it would not work anywhere, not even this one particular site. Are you sure this warning is not a phishing attempt to get you to visit a malicious site elsewhere?A screenshot of this warning would help (provided you have WebShield turned on). How do I insert an image?I click on the “Insert Image Icon” in the above toolbar and I get these…What is it that goes between the two image tags? mchain August 5, 2015, 6:06pm 9 Attach your image you’ve saved to the Attach: box below: Here is the screen shot of my error message… mchain August 10, 2015, 4:59am 11 Thank you for the .jpg (pic). I usually use a popped out HTML5 video. It takes a long time, but after a few hours that video tab goes out of memory. If i have a popped out chat window for the stream, the chat goes out of memory at the same time. The problem has occurred even when video is not popped out (i.e. it's in a regular tab).

This is because many home security solutions may need to scan for open ports or use ARP Spoofing for legitimate reasons. When these features are enabled, they activate automatically whenever you connect to an untrusted network. This ensures your protection, while avoiding frequent and potentially intrusive false-positive alerts. For more information about the premium Firewall features, refer to the following article:Avast Firewall - FAQsAdvanced settingsThe Firewall Rule list contains a list of advanced rules that you can customize to more precisely control Firewall behavior. We do not recommend configuring advanced Firewall rules unless you have advanced knowledge of firewall concepts. 2025-04-19Hey there! Welcome to the Digital Spy forums. If you’d like to join in, please sign in or register. evening, i have avast anti virus, free, and free firewall zonealarm. now just seen a free 12 month offer from pc toolsoffering spyware doctor antispyware, anti virus, firewall and spam protection, is this free 12 month offer better than what i have now ?????? thanks 0 Comments thanks already have it. 0 System Posts: 2,096,970 Forum Member✭✭✭✭✭ No I wouldn't bother with the PC Tools free offer myself. It would be interesting though if a few people tried it and got rid of their other stuff and kept us updated here and gave their opinions on the suit.I would;Keep Avast Home Edition;Keep Malwarebytes;Keep SuperAntiSpyware;Get Emisoft A-squared free as another alternative to MBAM & SAS.Get Comodo Memory Firewall (free).Get Bitdefender V.10 free edition as a back up anti-virus. This is a stand alone scanner and does not have 'on-access' realtime protection like Avast. Just scan as and when you like, but it's better to turn off the Avast 'on-access' when bitdefender is scanning.Get rid of Zonealarm (free) and replace it with Comodo Firewall Pro (free). Just install the firewall and not the anti-virus engine. 0 System Posts: 2,096,970 Forum Member✭✭✭✭✭ If I remember correctly in this months PC Pro magazine they have tested all the major internet security packages and PC Tools came last, Even Norton and McAfee beat them 0 If I remember correctly in this months PC Pro magazine they have tested all the major internet security packages and PC Tools came last, Even Norton and McAfee beat themYes they tested 15 suites and Alvira won it this year but McAfee & Kaspersky still came out alright.I know of Nortons reputation but I thought that McAfee was a good one,
2025-04-05By default, the Firewall feature in Avast Free Antivirus, Avast Premium Security and Avast One restricts internet access to certain networks and programs. Access may be restricted to public networks and streaming-media programs, network games, or custom business applications that are provided by your employer. This article explains how to change your Firewall settings to manually allow a network or an application if you know they are safe.Add a trusted networkEvery time you connect to a new network, Avast Firewall detects if the network is private or public, and automatically applies the relevant settings. If Avast Firewall restricts access to your network, you can manually specify that the network is trusted by following the steps below:We recommend you only modify your network rules if absolutely necessary.
